This event talks about the use of electrochemical spectroscopy in the analysis of soild-state batteries from both, a theoretical and practical viewpoints. The talk will be divided into two 25-30 minute sections:
- Theory and modelling of the anode interface (e.g., Li|LLZO) – presented by Dr. Janis Eckhardt
- Experiments showing how EIS is an effective tool for studying the anode interfaces – presented by Till Ortmann.

About the Speakers
Dr. Janis Eckhardt recently completed his PhD in Theoretical Physics and is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Jürgen Janek at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (Germany). His research focuses on “Transport Phenomena in Novel Energy Materials”. He is particularly interested in the challenges of analyzing electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data from solid-state systems. This includes, for example, the understanding of geometric aspects such as microstructure or interface morphology on the derivation of material-specific properties and the transport behavior in the system.
Till Ortmann currently is a Ph. D candidate in the research group of Prof. Jürgen Janek at the Justus Liebig University Giessen working on the topic “In situ and in operando characterization of interfaces in solid-state sodium batteries”. His work focuses on the characterization of the interface of sodium in contact with inorganic ceramic solid electrolytes via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in combination with analytical techniques including electron microscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
