About the event

Join us for a virtual Li-ion Battery Industry Panel Discussion on Thursday, June 9th from 10:00 to 11:00 am (EDT) on Zoom.

In this event, WatECS will host panelists from three industry leaders in the Li-ion battery space (Echion Technologies, Li-Cycle, and Zen eBikes) to get their perspectives on working as electrochemists and engineers in the industry, their personal career paths in the roles they currently hold, and their experience as leaders in the Li-ion battery industry.

Participating panelists and companies:

Dr. Loubna El Ouatani, Director of Product of Echion Technologies (Cambridge, UK), which specializes in fast-charging Li-ion anodes.

Echion Technologies was born in the labs of the University of Cambridge Engineering Department. The company spun out in 2017 with the ongoing support of Cambridge Enterprise and academic co-founders Adam Boies and Michael De Volder. They are now based in Sawston, Cambridge (UK), where their state-of-the-art facilities are fully-equipped to invent the battery materials of tomorrow, produce them at the pilot scale, and integrate them into battery cells. Echion Technologies supplies high-power Li-ion battery anode materials that enable superfast charging for a range of applications, from consumer electronics to electric vehicles.

Chris Biederman, P.Eng., CTO of Li-Cycle (Toronto, ON), which specializes in Li-ion battery recycling.

Li-Cycle recovers critical materials from lithium-ion batteries and reintroduces them back into the supply chain. By solving the global end-of-lifecycle lithium-ion battery problem, they create a secondary supply to both meet the demand for critical battery materials and ensure a sustainable future for our planet.

Dr. Ravi Kempaiah, Co-founder of Zen eBikes (Dartmouth, NS), which specializes in Li-ion batteries for electric bikes.

Zen Electric Bikes is a North-American E-bike enterprise headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia with offices in Portand, OR and in the DC-metro area. Their goal is to build high-quality E-bikes to enable the growth of electrified transportation in North America. E-bikes are the future, as one of the most efficient and environmentally-friendly modes of transport. Whether it is recreational, adventure, or commuting, E-bikes are the answer.
